It’s the beginning of a new year, the air outside is frigid, and weddings are few and far between. As a wedding photographer, I’m right in the middle of my inevitable annual slow season. While I miss photographing love stories every weekend, I am so excited to be able to slow down and share some wedding advice I’ve learned along the way. This week, I’m shining a spotlight on my favorite wedding venues in Northern Colorado.
One of the biggest decisions you will make during your wedding planning venture, second only to setting a date, is choosing your wedding venue. Whether you want an unforgettable destination wedding in the Mountain West, or you already call the Centennial State home, these Northern Colorado locations are sure to make an impression.
When I arrived at Vista View Events at Open Heart Ranch to capture Desiree and Justin’s wedding, I was blown away by its elegance. This stunning venue hosts weddings May through October, and can accommodate up to 200 guests. With a 5,000 square foot barn, a waterfront ceremony patio, and a backdrop of the Rocky Mountains, Vista View Events provides a luxurious canvas on which to sculpt the day of your dreams. Take a peek at Desiree and Justin’s wedding video to see more!
Charming. It’s the first word that comes to mind when I think of Stone Mountain Lodge, located in Lyons, Colorado. Their wedding packages include many helpful services, giving your event intimate backyard vibes without all the hassle. Two things that really stand out about Stone Mountain Lodge are 1) the gardens are w o n d e r f u l and 2) the staff gave us an ATV ride up the mountain which allowed me to take fun portraits with beautiful panoramic views (have a look at them here!).
Wanting to tie the knot in the Rocky Mountain National Park area? Look no further than St. Catherine of Siena Chapel, affectionately nicknamed “The Chapel on the Rock.” High in the mountains of Allenspark, Colorado, this striking stone chapel provides a serene ceremony site, while the nearby Lilly Lake is the perfect pit-stop for romantic portraits. The Chapel on the Rock is beautiful in the summer sunshine, or caressed in fall mountain mist as it was for Mac and Justine’s wedding day.
Speaking of Mac and Justine’s wedding, they headed down to Skyview at Fall River Village for their reception, which is only a few minutes from St. Malo’s chapel. But don’t be fooled… Skyview is SO MUCH more than a just a reception venue! They can host everything from your rehearsal dinner, to your ceremony and reception, to your honeymoon suite. This brand-spanking-new location (which opened mid-2018) boasts modern ambiance and seriously impressive 360° views.
The immaculate greenery, vibrant blooms, and misty waterfalls of the Denver Botanic Gardens present amazing photo opportunities and an unforgettable wedding venue. With twelve(!) different ceremony and reception locations to choose from, the Denver Botanic Gardens can accommodate the most intimate nuptials to the most extravagant weddings, and everything in between. Ruthie and Erik had their reception here, and W O W was it an amazing place to party the night away.
If a rustic mountain ranch wedding sounds like your dream, look no further than Midnight Ranch in Clark, Colorado. After spending three days here during a weekend-long wedding celebration, I can confidently say that Midnight Ranch is a place I will never forget. It was the perfect location for loved ones to relax and cherish each others company. With charming wooden guest cabins and 105 acres to party on, this ranch will host the bash of a lifetime! Watch Dan and Rachelle’s wedding video here for a more in-depth look at this magical place.
The Poudre River Canyon is gorgeous. There’s just something so calming about the sound of rushing water below those golden rocky cliffs. Tucked away by the banks of the Poudre is the Mishawaka Amphitheatre, a fun location known for serving up brews, putting on concerts, and yes, hosting weddings! They offer catering services, entertainment, and can even provide transportation for your guests to and from Fort Collins. Have a look at the photos from Tiffany and Nelson’s wedding to see more of what Mishawaka Amphitheatre has to offer!
Love the Denver Botanic Gardens but aiming for something a tad more rustic? Chatfield Farms is the place for you. Owned and operated by the Botanic Gardens, Chatfield Farms sits at the base of the Rockies in Littleton, CO. This charming historical homestead is home to several barns, stables, and even open-air chapels that are able to host the ceremony and reception of your dreams. But don’t worry- this lovely farm still boasts lush greenery and whimsical blooms for your wedding portrait pleasure. I had SO MUCH fun capturing Megan and Eric’s wedding day on the farm!
Beautiful simplicity. That’s what Fetcher Ranch is. As soon as I stepped on this ranch for Sarah and Wil’s wedding, I felt right at home. With acres upon acres of rolling green pastures, this is a venue for the western and adventurous at heart. Because Fetcher Ranch is essentially a blank canvas, it would allow you to fully take the reigns and plan your perfect wedding day from scratch.
